Back in 2011 when we launched Internbound, young men and women in college, from all backgrounds, were frantically waving the white flag.
The internship search process was a mess. Students had negative experiences, most internships paid zilch, and diversity hiring lacked big time.
We knew you wanted to taste the world before graduation. Feed your curiosity. Learn real-world skills. Build experiences that would lead to a job after college.
So we set out to make the process better. Help the employer discover you – the person – not the GPA. Bring you greater visibility. Empower you to showcase your stuff.
Along the way, we learned a ton.
We knew the resume process was a bust. We knew there were times when your roots, your gender, or lack of experience made employment tough. We knew we needed to find a way to level the playing field.
Then we had our “Aha” moment.
We created the student profile, a quick and easy way to tell your story. Talk about your challenges, successes, and experiences that got you to college. This would be your platform. Here, employers would learn about who you are beyond school, major, and statistics.
The student profile lets you add skills, coursework, outside interests, links to projects, blogs and portfolios, anything that speaks to your personality. Most importantly, we give you a place to make your pitch.
You can still search for internships by the hub and apply to companies directly from our website. That has not changed.
Now you have multiple ways to find an internship or that first job.
We just don’t want you and your story to fall down the rabbit hole.
We want employers to discover who you are and recognize that your qualities stretch far beyond the names and numbers. We believe this approach will help build a diverse workforce.
